The tanto knife style was first made popular by Cold Steel in the 1980s.Knife enthusiasts have been in love with tanto knives for many years. This is because of their super thick and reinforced tip.In 2007, Cold Steel revived a time proven classic with the G.I. Tanto fixed blade knife.I recently picked up a GI Tanto of my own, and here are my thoughts:What I like:1. Despina Tunberg . The GI Tanto is made with one solid piece of 1055 carbon steel. This steel is known for its toughness and edge holding ability. The handle is wrapped with Para cord. This feature gives the knife a tactical look and feel that you’ve gotta hold to appreciate.2. With a suggested retail value of $30, The GI Tanto is an incredible deal for the money.3. Its hollow ground blade has a thin enough edge to make razor thin slices, but its thick enough to withstand almost any torture test.4. The hand guard is also made from 1055 carbon steel. This gives you a lot of added protection from cutting your fingers on the blade. What I didn’t like:1. The cutting edge was not quite as sharp as most Cold Steel knives. My samurai shark was able to put a razor sharp edge on the GI Tanto almost instantly.2. The cordura sheath could be a little bit more rugged. For $20 I cant complain too much though.Overall:Cold Steel’s GI Tanto is one of the best deals of 2008. For the asking price, you truly cannot go wrong with such a TOUGH knife.

When going fishing there are many things that you need to remember to take whether you are professionally fishing or doing it for light entertainment. Some pieces of equipment are chosen through choice and are not essential but others are necessary. You will need to ensure that you purchase and use a good top quality fishing knife set. Having the best of these will ensure that you are able to fillet and prepare your fish at the end of the day.

Before purchasing your fishing knives you will need to consider your needs and what size of fish you are aiming to catch. Choosing the wrong knife can damage the fish and make them not edible; if you are aiming to catch smaller more delicate fish then you will need a knife that suits them. If you are aiming to catch larger fish then a small filleting knife would be useless and take you forever to use. If you tend to catch a variety of different fish then buying a whole fishing knife set would be more suited to you.

These sets are ideal as they often come in a case together so you can keep them neatly stored and in a safe place. These multiple sets will have many different fishing knives with different length and width of blades suitable for all types of fish. Deciding how much you want to spend on your knife set will depend on your budget and taste, although more expensive knives will often be more durable and last longer. The blades in the fishing knife set should have stainless steel blades; these are stronger and can be easily cleaned after every use. They will also remain sharp for the whole of the fishing season which is a bonus as a blunt knife can cause you problems.

You should also look at how the knives feel when you hold them they need to be comfortable and easy to use. If the fishing knives feel uncomfortable and clumsy then you will not enjoy using them as they will be awkward. You need to ensure that you keep your knives either in a sleeve or a separate box this will avoid you cutting yourself when looking for other items in your fishing box. You can also buy accessories to hold the knives onto your fishing vest or jacket, whatever method you find easier.

You should research different fishing knives to establish which ones are suited to your type of fishing and which ones are considered the better fishing knives set. If you can afford to buy expensive fishing knives then you do tend to get what you pay for. The more affordable ones are good but may not last you as long and you will end up replacing them throughout the fishing season. Whatever fishing knives you decide on they will become an essential part of your equipment and you will pack them every time you go. You will be able to clean and fillet your catch very easily and have it prepared by the time you return home. Having the correct equipment does help when you want to do things properly.

Kershaw knives first got its started in Portland, Oregon Back in 1974. After Pet Kershaw formally of Gerber Legendary Blades, made his own Cutlery company of his own designs. No doubt losing Pet Kershaw was a big lose to Gerber Legendary Blades. Kershaw knives is now multinational corporation. It is now owned by a Japanese KAI Group. All though it is still headquartered in Tualatin, Oregon. Pediatrician Sherman Oaks . Kershaw knives makes knives in many designs that includes cutlery, pocket knives, and hunting knives. Most knives are made in Oregon but some are now made in Japan.the Zero Talerance is a new line of knives Kershaw knives. The designed by Ken Onion, Tim Galyean, and Strider knives. Ken onion is one of Kershaw’s most known designers. Kershaw in a great act of charity gives a portion of the sale form each knife is given to the Outdoor Recreation Heritage Fund for the Paralyzed Veteran’s of America. this is a reason to think very highly of Kershaw knives, and to look at buying a knife form them. It shows that they are not just a great knife maker but that they are also humanitariansIn 2005 Kershaw showed just how much above the cut they are from the rest. Kershaw won four awards in the Atlanta Georgia, the first time one maker own four awards in the same year. this really made people stop and take notice. The awards that they won where Overall knife of the year, Most Innovative American Design, Kitchen Knife of the year, and Knife collaboration of the year. Then in 2007 they won the Over All Knife of the Year Award again for the 1850 Tyrade witch is a knife that uses two types of steel in the same blade. To win over all knife of the year two times in three years is a great accomplishment that cemented Kershaw knives at the top of the list as one of the great knife makers of the time. This shows that Kershaw knives is a leader in the knives world and a manufacture that if you are looking for some pocket knives Kershaw might be a good place to start you search. They for sure offer many great varieties pocket knives and hunting knives that are worth getting. They have awesome knives for hunting, fishing, or any outdoors sports. they all so have a great selection of kitchen cutlery.

Wusthof knives are known for their sharpness. Their precise forged knives are made of the highest quality. Wusthof knives are not only fun to work with but will make the preparation of the most boring dish a pleasure. Good knives for both professionals and non-professionals alike, the quality of these knives will make any chef enjoy the tasks of cutting, chopping, slicing, or mincing.

Each Wusthof knife line has its own ergonomic handle designed to offer a comfortable grip for any user. The sharpness of the knife is what makes the use of these knives such a delight. By keeping your knives sharp and properly clean, you can maintain precise cutting for the lifetime of the knife.

Wusthof knives are made of a special steel alloy and undergo over 40 manufacturing steps to produce the forged knife from one piece of steel. The features of this steel include high stain resistance, a long lasting cutting edge, and an easily restored sharpened edge.

Other features of the Wusthof knives include:

1. Construction from one piece of forged high carbon, special, alloyed stainless steel for durability and endurance. 2. Sharpness that is easily maintained by any owner. 3. Seamless connection between bolster and handle providing a hygienic fit. 4. Usefulness for professional chefs and home chefs as well.5. Guaranteed against manufacturing and material defects.

Types of Blades

There is a certain blade for each purpose required in the kitchen. The blades are all honed by hand and remarkably sharp. Different tasks require different types of blades. When you purchase a knife set you generally receive at least one of each blade.

A straight edge blade allows for a smooth, clean cut that works well for carving meat, vegetables, and fruit. The sharp smooth blade prevents the tearing of the fibers of the food.

A serrated edge blade is wavy and allows for easy cutting through foods like a traditional roast or crispy bread.

A hollow edge blade prevents food from sticking to the blade because an air pocket is created between the hollow edge and the food. This allows for much finer slices when cutting.

You can purchase Wusthof knives or a knife set from retailers as well as on the Internet. The cost of these knives is a reflection of their quality but still an affordable choice for any chef desiring a tool of precision and quality for the kitchen.

We all know that the Ka-Bar USMC knife is one of the toughest fixed blades out there. Does their Bull Dozier knife measure up to a time-tested classic? Here are my opinions:

What I like about the knife:

1. The Bull Dozier is made with a full tang that extends all the way to the end of the handle. This feature makes the knife very strong and unlikely to break even under the toughest conditions.

2. At 6.5 inches, the clip point style blade is long enough to be a wilderness survival companion or a tactical tool for military and law enforcement. Crafted with AUS 8A stainless steel that is black powder-coated, The Bull Dozier comes shaving sharp out of the box and holds an edge very well.

3. Your fingers have protection from slipping unto the blade because of the guard and well-designed handle. The handle is not only comfortable, but very tough and unaffected by elements like rain. The outer portion is made from glass-reinforced zytel, and the inside has kraton inserts for extra-comfort.

4. The hard plastic sheath is rugged and comes with a reversible belt attachment to allow for right or left handed carry.

5. Bull Doziers come with a plain (non-serrated) edge, which allows for easy sharpening in the wilderness or emergency situations.

What I didn’t like:

I would like to see this same knife available with a silver blade and at least partial serrations.

Overall:

The Ka-Bar Bull Dozier is a perfect knife for camping, hunting or military use. It is tough as nails and will last you a lifetime.

When it comes to carving, there are a lot of things to know, the first of them being that the carving tools you use are just as special as the carving technique you use. Every wood carver should have a comfortable knife and one that stays intact for a long period of time. Some say that carving knives are just as important as jewels are for women in that you can’t get enough of them at any time.

Most of the carving tools used today are forged from a particular kind of steel, which makes them more resistant and more durable. The first step is to make the knife flat by using anvil and a hammer, after which the blades are taken care of, being smoothed and rounded by using a grinder. After that, they are quenched and then they are finished, gaining their final shape. The last step consists of the knife being polished, so that it is shinier and more likely to attract the customer’s eye. Some of the marks stay on the blade, the blade finally being finished by using a hardwood handle. Sometimes, it only takes a strop for the carving knives to be sharpened and this is something most of the highest quality carving knives feature.

The handles of such a knife are made from wood, more or less simple, but this depends on each and every manufacturer. A good such knife is one that carves greatly, but which also looks great and these are probably two features you should look for with every knife you put your eyes on.

The Benchmade Snipe folder is becoming a favorite amongst military and emergency personnel alike. With such a practical design and affordable price, there is no reason why it wouldn’t be so well liked. Here are my opinions on the knife:

What I like about the knife:

1. At just under 4 inches (3.97), the modified drop-point style blade is the perfect length for both tactical applications and legal everyday carry by civilians. My knife was shaving sharp out of the box and has had no problem keeping its edge after several weeks of use.

2. Your fingers have excellent protection from lock failure. The levitator lock is a proven design that will hold up even after years of hard work.

3. The molded grip feels very comfortable in your hand and protects you from dropping the knife or slipping your fingers on the blade.

4.Jimping or thumb grooves on the back of the blade allow you to make delicate and precise cuts with hardly any effort.

5. You can get the Benchmade Snipe with a plain or half serrated edge. You also have the option of a black powder coated blade, which serves as a non-reflectant for police or military.

What I didn’t like:

I wish that Benchmade offered the Snipe with alternate blade styles such as clip or tanto point with a slightly longer blade.

Overall:

With a suggested retail value of $50, the Benchmade Snipe folder is a great value for the money. Get this knife and you will have a workhorse that will last for many years to come.

Victorinox, the makers of Swiss Army watches, are more popularly known for their world-class knives rather than their outstanding watches. Almost everyone has at least one of those stainless, all-purpose, take-it-anywhere-with-you knives with the distinctive cross-and-shield emblem. Since the creation of the first Swiss Army Knife in 1897 in the small village of Ibach, Victorinox has prided itself in crafting only tools of utmost precision and versatility. This centuries-old tradition has been carried on in the manufacture of Swiss Army watches, which reflect the company’s image osimplicity and class. Garage Door Remote . Other Victorinox products, such as camping gear, travel gear, cutlery, and apparel are also known for their trademark durability, but it’s the Swiss Army watches that you can take with you wherever you go, be it in a plane, underwater, while rappelling of a cliff, or conquering the Amazon forests.4 CategoriesSwiss Army watches are classified into four categories: Active, Classic, Professional, and Pocket/Travel. Make sure that the watch’s dial says, “Swiss Army,” as this is the only company authorized by the Swiss government to carry the Swiss Army name. The Pocket/Travel collection carries handsome pocket watches that are reminiscent of centuries past. There are pocket watches, leash watches, and pack watches whose prices are all within reach of the average traveler. Swiss Army watches cost anywhere between $100 to $1000.To perhaps offer a dress watch for enthusiasts of Swiss Army watches, Victorinox came up with the Alliance Diamond Model for women, classified under the “Classic” series. It has a scratch-resistant hardened sapphire crystal, a genuine Mother-of-Pearl dial with a date window at 3H, a push-button deployment clasp, and 40 full-cut diamonds. Although it’s water-resistant up to 100 meters, I don’t think I’ll be wearing one on my next fun dive lest a trigger fish nips at one of its bezel diamonds.Swiss Army watches are very simple in design, with clean lines, uncomplicated numbers, and straightforward functions. All models are also reasonably priced and always come with a warranty, which assures you of only the strictest quality assurance standards. air conditioning contractor .

The SOG Arcitech folding knife is attractive enough to be craved by knife collectors all over the world. It is also practical enough to count on as an everyday utility knife. Here are my thoughts on the knife:

What I like about the knife:

1. Crafted from VG-10 San Mai steel, the Arcitech gives you an excellent compromise between edge retention and flexibility. Your inner layer (cutting edge) is made from super tough VG-10 steel, and there is a layer of softer 420 steel laminated on each side. This feature also helps to protect against rust.

2. SOG’s rugged arc-lock is known for its strength and durability. You wont need to worry about lock failure as the arc-lock is made to last a lifetime.

3. At 3.5 inches long, the clip point style blade is both practical and legal. You shouldn’t get into any trouble from law enforcement when carrying the Arcitech in your pocket.

4. My knife came hair shaving sharp out of the box and has no problem keeping its edge. The jimping or thumb grooves on the back of the blade helps you to make precise cuts, or tear through something when you’re in a hurry.

5. You have the option of either jigged bone or carbon fiber handles. They both feel fantastic in your hand, and should last the same amount of time. The carbon fiber version is black while the jigged bone handle has hints of red.

What I didn’t like:

I wish that the pocket clip was ambidextrous to allow for left handed carry.

Overall:

With a suggested retail value of $425, the SOG Arcitech is not your average knife. Everything that goes into it is high quality and dependable. I believe that the Arcitech is perfect for an everyday work companion or to become the next member of your knife collection.

Mark It, Own it – Engraved Pocket Watches and More! When you hear the words “one-of-a-kind”, what immediately follows are words “very expensive.” The good that has come out from mass production is that things have gotten cheaper, and for the most part, especially from producers who have and want to keep their good name, quality is not substituted by quantity. The sad thing about it is that well, you are likely to have the exact same thing that everyone else does.Let’s Get PersonalWhat you can do to still benefit from the less expensive yet good products out there to make it your own is to have it engraved. Okay, so putting your name isn’t exactly original, you’ve probably done the same thing during your primary school years, but nobody says it has to be your name engraved on it, anyway.Take for example engraved pocket watches, these can be engraved with just about anything that can fit on it’s covers, from phrases to poems to little commemorative lines. If the engraver is talented enough, these engraved pocket watches can have drawings and more elaborate designs. That’s why engraved pocket watches make good special occasion giveaways like weddings, anniversaries, retirement parties and benchmark birthdays (18, 21, 50). Another reason engraved pocket watches are popular is because a well-made pocket watch, a classic in terms of design, is a future heirloom. The engraving on it will ensure that who ever inherits it remembers who it was from, and what it was for.A Bit Less Sentiment, More FunctionIf you’d like an option on where to put your mark that’s less mushy and more useful than engraved pocket watches, engraved Zippo lighters are the next step. There’s still a little bit of sentiment and nostalgia attached to this WWII trinket, it still mostly looks and works the same way it did when soldiers brought them to the battlefields, and will last as long as their predecessors did. Lighters have a lot of uses apart from lighting tobacco, so don’t let the image of smokers prevent you from owning a part of history.Further down this spectrum of historically useful things, owning a couple of engraved Swiss army knives is not a bad idea. cheap benchtops . And, you’re asking why would anyone need more than one Swiss knife? Doesn’t go against that the idea behind having a multipurpose knife? Surprisingly, the answer to that is “no.” A Swiss knife can perform a multitude of functions, but most of them are made with a specific situation in mind, like fishing, camping or rooting around in your car. If you’ve seen the new and tinie tiny lady’s Swiss knife (it comes in pastel colors) going around these days, you’ll know what that means.Mark It, Own ItNot every one can have something made to their specifications because that takes a lot of time and money. But you can’t let that stop you from making something uniquely yours, even if it’s just an engraving that says “I belong to John.” Now, isn’t that something to think about?
